 Love the show, disappointed in the quality of the DVD's February 24, 2010

I've been a fan of the show from the beginning, and when it made it's debut in HD with the third season, the show never looked so good. I've bought all six seasons on DVD so that I can go back to Dog River whenever the mood hits me, but I have to say, the video quality is atrocious. I mean come on, did they burn the HD masters in a pit thinking no one would ever need to see them again? I know DVD video isn't HD, but most of the time, the DVD versions of shows and movies are mastered from the HD source, giving the best possible quality for the format. With the last four seasons of Corner Gas, the video is blocky, over compressed, and when watched on a high definition TV, it's almost a slap in the face to quality freaks like myself. I'd love to see the entire series re-released in either a Blu-ray collection, or at the very least, a fully remastered DVD set with much better compression using the HD masters as a source.
But I will say this, for the price and quantity (not quality) of episodes in these DVD sets, it's an alright purchase. If you're like me and prefer a little quality for your money, I'd hold off and see if something better comes along in the future that does this Canadian classic justice.

I've bought the entire series of corner Gas from amazon as only season 1 is available in OZ. A fantastic show. I could not wait to see what the Dog River gang would get up to in each episode. I've got my entire family hooked on the show now. The last season seems a little disjointed, as though they were trying to cram too many last minute ideas in. However, that said, it is truly worth buying and you'll get a good laugh. Just a shame that this show couldn't keep going. Something tells me that they'd never run out of ideas for a story.

I was introduced to Corner Gas strictly through the DVDs and fell in love with the residents of this quirky small town. If I had to pick favorites it would be Hank and Brent's mom and dad: they raise the mundane to satirical poetry. From having to borrow extra imaginary money to using a child's middle name to maintain control. Perhaps one of the best scenes is Hank's baby sitting nightmare where he wakes up under the bottomless bird cage tied to a chair. But the series and its characters are all great, taking on curling, hockey sack, old men who keep the stuff you lose over the fence, or buying R2D2 on ebay (complete with a certificate of authenticity written on a pizza box}. I will miss it even though it did go out at its comedic peak.

There's something about this show thats semi magical.. its the cast, they work so well together.. i preordered this dvd as soon as amazon had it become avalible.. its very enjoyable like very other season past .. this one has extra charm though, the ending is not dramatic, but fun ... we'll miss you guys!
