Turn Talk Into Text

Accurate Speech Recognition for PC Applications
Dragon NaturallySpeaking 10 Standard offers unprecedented speech recognition with unrivaled accuracy levels: it's up to 20% more accurate than Version 9, with up to 50% more accurate results than the product delivered just five years ago. Users gain the added benefit of avoiding spelling errors and typing mistakes. In fact, the product actually learns from corrections over time.

Works With the Applications Users Already Have
Dictate directly into Microsoft Word and most other Microsoft Office applications running on Microsoft Windows XP, Windows 2000, and Windows Vista. Dragon also supports popular programs such as Corel WordPerfect, Microsoft Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, and AOL. Navigate the desktop by voice: launch or switch applications, save or print documents, and more--even control menus and dialog boxes.

Create and Edit Documents and Messages
Dragon NaturallySpeaking 10 introduces new graphical icons to enhance the DragonBar user interface, making the product even easier to use.

Users can quickly add custom words, such as proper names, to the system's vocabulary.

Quick Voice Formatting commands allow users to issue a single voice command, such as "Bold Quick Voice Formatting" to make deleting and formatting text faster than ever. In addition, unique Natural Language Commands mean users don't have to memorize complex instructions. In Word, for example, a user can say, "make that bigger," and the font size increases instantly.

With the automatic punctuation option, users can omit spoken periods and commas during dictation--Dragon NaturallySpeaking enters them automatically.

Send Email, Instant Messages and Surf the Web--All by Voice
Users can browse the Internet with ease: search the Web, access information and navigate Web pages, simply by speaking URLs and links.

5 out of 5 stars Works very well...   October 8, 2009

I am a teacher and I have used it now to make up several tests. It didn't take very long to get up and running and it worked very well. I also have a bit of a Newfoundland accent and I was worried I was wasting my money, but it was worth it. A good buy.

4 out of 5 stars Overall quite good...can't be used for everything.   April 20, 2009

Overall we're happy with this product, but I'd like to explain our experience with it, just to be helpful for those thinking of purchasing.

There are 2 of us in the office and we wanted to use this item to transcribe the recordings that we do. We tried placing the microphone by the speaker as our recording was playing and thought hopefully Dragon Naturally Speaking would transcribe it. The program was very confused and didn't accurately record what was being said. Perhaps the software wasn't meant for this purpose, especially because a CD player isn't the same as "live" voice.

Then we tried to have the program running as we were doing a recording. One of us wore the headset and we recorded our interview as usual. However, shortly into it, an error window kept popping up that it was holding too much information (I can't remember the exact wording, but basically it sounded like it was too much data to process) and we couldn't use it anymore while we were recording.

So what I ended up doing is listening to the recordings that we made, and as I was listening, I re-spoke what was said, pausing it, re-speaking, etc. This worked fairly well.

Another thing I found is that the software seems to like my voice and is much more accurate and can keep up with my voice over my employers voice. I think there are features to improve accuracy, but it seemed my voice worked without doing much. It is very funny, however, to read what the program thought you were saying - e.g. if I said "communication", it seemed to keep typing "medication" - but a simple adjustment in the accuracy improvement changed that. You'll definitely need to baby-sit it a bit, and proof-read.

I also couldn't seem to find out how to turn off the voice commands (e.g. a command like "period", to write a "."). Sometimes you'd like to write the word "period", for example.

Finally, the software can't seem to process talking for a long stint of time...it seems to be processing, processing, and a little over-loaded. If you're dictating, I found what worked is to speak a sentence or so, and have a long enough pause for it to write it out, then speak again. I'm not sure if this has to do with the program or the processing speed of your computer (we have a Dell Laptop that's 3-4 yrs old).

So overall, the program works well and it's pretty neat, but it isn't a miracle program (I suppose that isn't necessarily realistic to think it would be).

4 out of 5 stars Dragon Naturally Speaking - Takes time but is worth it...   March 8, 2009

This product takes some time to get used to, Dragon doesn't understand your voice right away so it can be frustrating at first when you have to repeatedly correct it. After about 6 hours of using it to make study notes and write essays, this program was working better then I can type and with fewer mistakes. Definately a decent investment for a university student. I was surprised when it understood words like "sclera" and "allelopathy" on the first try, so the vocabulary is pretty impressive. This would not be a good product for someone who is not a decent public speaker however, you must be able to clearly ennunciate your words. Those with accents or slight speach problems should stear clear.

2 out of 5 stars Not supported on 64bit Windows OS   January 17, 2009

They do not tell you that this is not supported on a 64bit OS. Not very impressed with this. Do not understand why this product is still not supported on a Windows 64bit OS as the software is very popular and 64bit OS has been out for sometime now. Be advised that this will not install on a 64bit OS and nothing in the specs advise you of this.

Cheers,
