5 out of 5 stars Michael Jackson The Dangerous Tour Bucharest   March 9, 2010
Ms. L. Pienaar Groenewald (U.K.)
This is a real 5 star experience. Michael at his best and strong and the way we will remember him. Srong. Superior dancing AND singing. God bless him and give him peace and joy. He gave us joy and he cared about the planet and us.

2 out of 5 stars ok but....   March 6, 2010

the show is ok but it gets ruined by the far too many shots of the fans, it's too much and ridiculous to see the fainting and screaming fans.
This is the first full concert MJ that I've watched... I recently bought This Is It and I've noticed that choreography didn't change much from this concert to what This Is It would've been. It's just an observation. I've been to all Madonna's concerts and her choreography will always be different from concert to concert...

Dont whatever you do buy this if you are a fan of MJ. The sound on this DVD is THE WORST I have ever encounted in my whole life. I bascially bought it watched 10 mins and threw it in the bin.
total waste of money.

4 out of 5 stars Dangerous Live   February 8, 2010
Mr. R. M. Lathwell (Hemel Hempstead, UK)
I'm not a huge Michael Jackson fan but after his death thought I'd rent a copy of this to see what his live concerts were like. At the time of the Dangerous tour he was at the top of his game as a performer. He had a back catalogue of massive hit singles from which to choose, he had the financial security to be able to lay on a lavish, effect-laden show and the controversies that dogged his later life had yet to occur.

As far as showmanship go I can't fault this DVD. How many other artists have signature dance moves that are as well known as the songs they accompany? The set list is solid and covers his career from the birth of the Jackson 5 and through his four classic solo albums up to the time of filming, "Off The Wall", "Thriller", "Bad" and "Dangerous". The dance moves are fantastic, the effects are great for the time (remember this was filmed almost two decades ago now) and you can see why he was considered to be one of the greatest entertainers of the last century.

There are some issues though. There is a fair degree of obvious miming going on. In part this is doubtless due to the energy that is going into the dance routines and is all too apparent when he sings live to "Wanna Be Startin' Something" early on in the set which is a breathless mess. Having said that things improve little on "Human Nature" which is hardly the most energetic of numbers. The concert really comes into its own once you accept that a good portion of it is mimed and just enjoy the spectacle of the show. Once specific gripe I'd have is the need to continually cut to shots of audience members begin hauled out of the crowd and carried away in varying degrees of hysteria and consciousness. As an audience you want to see Michael Jackson on stage and not having the edit continually cutting to another crowd member being carried off on a stretcher.

This DVD also contains one of the most unintentionally hilarious bits of film I've ever seen when he dances with a female fan during "She's Out Of My Life". Her reaction when she is eventually prised away from him to be returned to the crowd had me laughing out loud.

I'm sure any self respecting MJ fan has already seen or bought this DVD but for those, like me, who are curious to see what all the fuss was about I'd certainly recommend it as long as you're prepared to accept that much of the vocal is pre-recorded and set aside any prejudices based upon allegations from his private life. Personally I think it's a fair trade off for the benefit of the show as a whole and on the basis of this it's a shame that he didn't in the end have the opportunity to return to the stage in order to display his genius as a performer once again.

5 out of 5 stars FANTASTIC Concert !!   January 19, 2010
Elle (Brussels, Belgium)
I am a new MJ fan who have only now started to grasp his genious.

When I first watched this concert, I could not comprehend that I had never made the effort to go and see MJ's extraordinary concerts and now it is too late. Therefore this is a real keep-sake.

Some readers found that this DVD can be watched sitting in an armchair. Never! MJ and his music and dancing are so dynamic and intense that one starts dancing oneself! Someone lamented that there are too many sections where only audience or screaming girls are filmed. This is partly true, but there is the forward wind button.

My favourites are the 'Smooth Criminal' with its superb choreography made especially for the scene and the 'I Just Can't Stop Loving You'. The show's tracks move fluently from high beat, energetic tracks such as 'Jam' and 'Wanna Be Startin Something' to soft ballads. This concert testifies how MJ really knows how to take his audience. It is just amazing.

I have watched this DVD at least 6 times already and I am sure will never tire of it. I recommend this DVD wholehartedly to everyone who wishes to see and listen to Michael Jackson at his best - performing as only he could.
