The doctors at Seattle Grace Hospital bloom and show new layers, the drama meets and exceeds that of previous seasons, and the show marks an important milestone--its 100th episode--with developments that, as with all the great Grey's episodes, brim with belly laughs and moving tears. The season gets off to a slow start, with perhaps a bit more relationship angst than even diehard fans would prefer. Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Derek "McDreamy" (Patrick Dempsey) start out with the familiar push-pull of their love affair--but a resolution, at last, is in their future. Callie (the excellent, and newly glamorous, Sara Ramirez) wrestles with her sexual orientation. Cristina (Sandra Oh, never better) is still picking up the pieces from her ruined engagement to the departed Burke (Isaiah Washington). To help her, or maybe to throw her for another loop, the series introduces the gruff, macho military doc, Owen (one of TV's sexiest hunks, Kevin McKidd). Yet series creator and still active writer Shonda Rhimes unveils story arcs about midway through the season which have the surgeons' operating room dramas intersecting with the characters' private lives--with waves of heartbreaking results. Fans may take issue with "Dead Denny" (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and his endless visitations--complete with sex--with Izzie (Katherine Heigl)--but as the season builds, Izzie's mystery illness, and her deep love for Alex (Justin Chambers) are treated with delicacy and respect, and Denny's character both reacts and ultimately supports. There's a wedding--a fairy-tale one--celebrating the show's 100th episode, and the love of the characters, and the pain they've overcome to get there--are equal parts of the very human, very lovely, result. The season finale is among the show's best ever, with the fate of two beloved characters, George (T.R. Knight) and Izzie, left unknown and laden with sorrow. --A.T. Hurley

Customer Reviews: Showing reviews 1-5 of 12 1 2 3 Next » THE BEST SEASON SO FAR.....BY A MILE August 26, 2010 j. graham as a massive grey's anatomy fan i had been waiting over 6 months for this boxset to be released in the U.K though i have to say it's 100% worth the wait! the first episode isn't really up to much but after that the season just keeps getting better and better! the best episode is defiantly the shows 100th episode titled "what difference a day makes" and the season finale is phenomenal! just brilliant telly, that you can't stop watching! fantastic Great season of Greys, emotional finale August 19, 2010 Mr. Joshua A. J. Bower (UK) Grey's has somewhat lost the spark it once had, but that doesn't mean this season isn't bad. If you like Greys 1-4, you'll like this. The main negative is how George is barely included in any storyline. At all. It's bad, really. But it has an amazingly emotional finale. Amazing!!!!!!!!!!!! August 2, 2010 Alice As ever, Grey's Anatomy is engaging, thrilling and enjoyable. The characters really develop and the storyline is really absorbing, with many plot twists and turns. The only complaint I would have is the delay in the UK DVD release- over a year after the US release. I know that Amazon cannot help this, but, as a direct plea to the producers, PLEASE release these seasons DVD's at the same time as they are released in the US. The show has moved on so far from this point and this time LAST YEAR i literally got so frustrated that i went out and brought myself a multiregion DVD player and ordered the US version! The issue is so ridiculous that my friends even went as far as buying season 5 from China where they share our region at the same time we brought ours from the US! Sort it out! We've watched season 5 through twice now and watched season 6 and about ten days after this is released from here we'll be buying the next season from america!
