almost perfect... September 2, 2010 toocool Microsoft guys outdid themselves on this OS. Fast, stable, very good compatibility, "really real" P'n'P with almost any peripheral. It's as I said in the title, "almost perfect".
Why "almost"? because of the way it handles winsxs folder. it's there to ensure the compatibility and does a good job, but isn't cleaned optimally, si, onstead of using the space necessary for the things you need only, it inflates and inflates... mine is above 8GB right now, and used on an SSD of 30GB, that's a lot of (wasted?) space. As a result, while it was a dream to use during the first 8-9 months, by now I struggle to keep a couple of GB free to let the OS running smoothly. basically, you have to have at least 60GB on primary partition to have enough space for the OS and a few programs to stay comfortable. that's why I didn't give it 5 stars. the disk space that "shrinks" even if you don't install anything new and clean temporary files on a regular basis...
If microsoft manages to cure that "little problem", maybe in a future SP1, it will merit 5 stars without question :)
Slick and quick - not like Vista! July 28, 2010 Kets I upgraded my HP Pavilion dv9000 to Win 7 64bit with ease. I now have a clean system which is lot more enjoyable to use compared to Vista.
Windows 7 July 17, 2010 TDS purchased and installed windows 7. A straight forward process once I ran the upgrade tool and took notice of which programs I needed new drivers for and which I needed to uninstall and the re-install after windows 7. Nearly 3 weeks now and no issues.
Excellent! July 1, 2010 S. Kirby Product is excellent.
I am running it on a virtual machine on my MacBook Pro. Love it!
Windows 7 June 18, 2010 Alex DeLarge (Lundy Island, devon) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Windows 7 is fast and (so far) reasonably reliable. It's difficult to get excited about an operating system, so I won't even try...
Design-wise, the less-is-more approach of Vista has been largely abandoned, giving 7 a kind of XP-redux feel. Some fairly annoying and typically Microsoft features smack of over-design - I don't like its over-eager approach to multitasking, especially when I'm trying to juggle three spreadsheets and a Word document. Maybe I'm just thick? Well... that's what user 'friendly' was designed for. But this GUI is unstylish, and not intuitive. It's as if it's been designed as a basis for some future version where you touch the screen.
Given that XP (2001) wasn't superceded for a full 5 years, and Vista only lasted 3 years, I'll give this one 2 years from digital cradle to virtual grave.
All in all, fine. But it's no great move forward.
