VHS - DVD August 17, 2010 Spam I purchased the ROXIO software as it was a cheaper option to achieve what I wanted. The software loaded on to my PC OK. However I found that during the process of the transfer from the video to DVD the software often locked or the detail on the menu screens became blacked out.
Having looked at the ROXIO website and frequently asked questions this may be a fault that has been experienced regularly by users of the product.
All in all I eventually achieved what I wanted the product for but in a much longer timescale than I expected.

An awful piece of software August 5, 2010 GordonG I bought Roxio Easy VHS to DVD some months ago. I have had nothing but trouble with it. The procedure is as follows: 1: capture the VHS and save it in your hard drive, 2: Create menus and things like that, 3:Create the DVD file and write it onto the disc.
1:To be fair, the VHS to disk part of the process seems to work well.
2:Creating menus was a nightmare. The software was slow, not at all intuitive and often did not do what it said it would do. Of course, if you don't want menus you wont have this nightmare. So what about creating the DVD.
3:I first of all tried it on a machine running under XP. Instead of creating the DVD it just sat there and locked up the computer.
So I tried it on a Vista machine - same again.
I tried it on a notebook computer running XP - then the DVD part of the program wouldn't run at all because the appropriate screen resolution wasn't availble. I solved that by hooking the notebook up to my TV as a display.
I was then informed by the program that I was missing a particular Windows DLL. So I downloaded that and success... of a sort.
So I could now create the DVD, but what a shambles. The menus didn't work. The sound was sometimes distorted to such an extent it sounded it was being played at half-speed.
Verdict: an awful piece of software. Avoid at all costs. I bought when knocked down to 20-odd quid. Even knocked down to £19.99 it is a waste of money.
And in case anyone wonders whether I'm just too incompetent to use computers, I've been using computers and writing software for the last 40 years!
NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE! Product recall needed!!! June 12, 2010 Mr. W. Welsford (UK) I have patience, am technically able to do most things on a PC, and tried numerous times with NO SUCCESS!!!!! VHS player works with TV. The booklet and the cute video on Amazon is how it SHOULD WORK! So why doesn't it? The software is UTTER "PANTS". I am trying to convert old VHS tapes recorded from telly in the 80's (most not on BBC/ITV archive) and bought tapes. My brother tested it on Windows XP and managed to get an image from his VHS player but the "Capture" button was greyed out and therefore inoperative. I tried on my relatively new laptop with Windows 7 and I didnt even get an image, just a black square! Then I got my "problem solving" head on and went to great lengths to check system compatibility, which, believe me was confusing. I went onto Microsoft website for DirectX updates, still no joy, checked USB2 compatibility and went through all the PAL compatibility variables with STILL NO SUCCESS. Roxio web site was no use, just refers to a copyright message error which isn't compatible with Windows 7. After about 20 separate attempts and finally reading Amazon reviews (should have done in 1st place) over 2 weeks. Sending it back as "Not-fit for purpose" as it has never worked. We also tried EZ Grabber which didn't work either. Trying the "VHS Rescue" product next.
'Easy' - I think not! June 5, 2010 Prof Laurence Alison (UK) This product sucks. The joke of it is in the title and the accompanying video to promote the product. It is NOT 3 easy steps. Instead, it takes horus of set up and frustrating messing aroudn with cables, software, installing, reading the ROIO website for help (with little effect), phone calls to ROXIO (also not helpful) and negotations with the most tehcnically adept people I know - who also struggled with this dreadful product. Avoid at all costs.. why cant i get a decent and geniunely easy to use product to transfer VHS ot DVD?
