NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE! Product recall needed!!! June 12, 2010 Mr. W. Welsford (UK) I have patience, am technically able to do most things on a PC, and tried numerous times with NO SUCCESS!!!!! VHS player works with TV. The booklet and the cute video on Amazon is how it SHOULD WORK! So why doesn't it? The software is UTTER "PANTS". I am trying to convert old VHS tapes recorded from telly in the 80's (most not on BBC/ITV archive) and bought tapes. My brother tested it on Windows XP and managed to get an image from his VHS player but the "Capture" button was greyed out and therefore inoperative. I tried on my relatively new laptop with Windows 7 and I didnt even get an image, just a black square! Then I got my "problem solving" head on and went to great lengths to check system compatibility, which, believe me was confusing. I went onto Microsoft website for DirectX updates, still no joy, checked USB2 compatibility and went through all the PAL compatibility variables with STILL NO SUCCESS. Roxio web site was no use, just refers to a copyright message error which isn't compatible with Windows 7. After about 20 separate attempts and finally reading Amazon reviews (should have done in 1st place) over 2 weeks. Sending it back as "Not-fit for purpose" as it has never worked. We also tried EZ Grabber which didn't work either. Trying the "VHS Rescue" product next.
'Easy' - I think not! June 5, 2010 Prof Laurence Alison (UK) This product sucks. The joke of it is in the title and the accompanying video to promote the product. It is NOT 3 easy steps. Instead, it takes horus of set up and frustrating messing aroudn with cables, software, installing, reading the ROIO website for help (with little effect), phone calls to ROXIO (also not helpful) and negotations with the most tehcnically adept people I know - who also struggled with this dreadful product. Avoid at all costs.. why cant i get a decent and geniunely easy to use product to transfer VHS ot DVD?
The worst software I've ever paid money for June 5, 2010 aeromerc Installed on Wife's PC - connected to video (after getting the extra cable I had to buy...). Tried to burn videos for hours, using every different configuration possible. Ended up with 5 DVDs in the bin, none of which were readable on the DVD player.
The tiny view of the video you are trying to record means you can't read titles.
The software does't start recording for a couple of seconds after you press 'record'.
And regardless of the settings the video never recorded at adequate quality - mostly skipping so badly it was unwatchable.
Even the video recorded at 'high resolution' didn't seem to be adequate quality compared to the original.
The settings seemed to have a mind of their own - not changing when you want them to and bizarrely changing when you thought you had set them.
The audio channel needs monitoring as if you set it incorrectly it will record the video with no sound.
I thought it might be something to do with my wifes less powerful PC so installed it on my own - this time it didn't even install correctly and crashed on opening.
The installation is over 200mb - what exactly all this software does is a mystery.
Don't buy Roxio 2010 with this product before checking compatibility June 1, 2010 Alan I bought Roxio 2010 and Roxio Easy VHS to DVD. Unfortunately my experience has been that you cannot install both without the other being uninstalled - bizarre. There may be some Roxio information about this because I have posted a forum topic on this matter and I await a reply. My advice check before buying this product if used with another Roxio application.
Good but ..... May 27, 2010 WOLFIEGIRL (UNITED KINGDOM) It took me about a week to get this product set up. In the end I had to contact their support desk - which to be honest wasn't very good and all they told me to do was to read their web site - which I'd already done!. No-where on the description does it say that you have to have a player with OUTPUT sockets. Being a girl I wasn't aware that the red/yellow/white sockets on the front of my video were one way only and just input. I've had to route the video through 2 other machines to get it to one that has an OUTPUT socket so please check your video has these before buying the product.
Once I resolved that small issue then its really simple to use and the software is fantastic!
