1 out of 5 stars Waste of time & money   September 12, 2008

Beware! As a standalone remote for the PS3 the Logic3 is hopeless - either buy a genuine Sony PS3 DVD/Blu-ray remote or save your money & use a PS3 gamepad for DVDs & BDs. Also, a Harmony 555 will NOT correctly assimilate the Logic3's commands - be it via Harmony's database or manual input. Cheap, nasty & pointless!

3 out of 5 stars Functional, but beware of interference with DVD player   August 13, 2008
Yes the remote isn't great; yes you can use it for driving the PS3 from a universal remote. However, as an earlier reviewer noted, the dongle uses the same IR commands as some Sony DVD players. Unfortunately, I have such a DVD player making this mostly useless for me, because I don't want the DVD player powering on and FF'ing, etc., every time I operate the PS3....

4 out of 5 stars Perfect for programming your universal IR remote control   March 30, 2008

As others have said, the actual remote control is not exactly a work of art - badly designed and unresponsive, which really makes you think of it as being next to useless. However, that's not why you ought to buy this - you ought to buy this for the IR dongle that you plug into your PS3 and to use the rubbish remote once (and only once) to program your universal remote so that all of your kit is still controlled via a single remote.

As it turns out one of my universal remote's in-built set of IR codes for a Sony DVD player actually worked all of the transport commands (play, FF, chapter+-, etc), and all I had to was teach it the cursor control and a couple of others - the whole process took less than 10 minutes and the Logic remote is now buried in a drawer. The universal remote also now works the main PS3 menu screens, so as long as the PS3 is turned on you can browse through the menus, go to the PS3 store, etc., all from the comfort of one remote control

3 out of 5 stars Awful remote but good to use with universal remote   March 8, 2008

This is extremely poorly made and the remote is useless. However, it's very good to use with infra-red universal remotes such as the Logitech Harmony series.

It is now known by the Logitech Harmony database so just add a new device called "Logic3 PS3 Remote" and you'll all set.

4 out of 5 stars On the other hand for those wanting to add IR control to PS3   January 18, 2008

In defence of this product given the earlier review, I too wouldn't use this remote instead of the bluetooth Sony one. However if you want to be able to control the PS3 using a universal infra-red remote this can help you achieve that. Basically you plug the dongle into the PS3, teach your universal remote the IR commands from the supplied remote and you can then navigate DVDs and even play games using your universal remote.

The only thing you can't do is power the PS3 on/off because the dongle itself doesn't receive power until the PS3 itself is on (this isn't much of an issue for playing a DVD as you have to put the DVD into the PS3 anyway).
