Purchased along with my ASUS notebook. You will definitely need to use the USB-Y connector (two inputs - cable is included with the drive) to get enough power. Worked very well for installation of programs. I use my desktop for burning DVDs / CDs so I can't tell you how well it burns. All in all I am very satisfied.

Purchased this DVD reader/writer after I picked up a Toshiba Netbook. Wanted to have it available since Netbooks, because of their size and weight, do not have an optical drive. It is a small light unit, set up to use two USB slots for power but it seems to work on only one. Have used it several times, mostly the evening I installed software on the Netbook but have written several DVD's ----- works fine.

I'VE HAD IT IT FOR ABOUT A WEEK AND IT DOES AN EXCELLENT

This is one of the most infuriating pieces of junk I've ever purchased in my life! Half of the time it won't even recognize a disk! It shows up then disappears, then shows up and disappears, so on and so forth. I'm pissed that we spent $50 on this thing, they should've paid us to take it. ASUS dropped the ball on this one. FAIL!

I don't see why you wouldn't purchase this product if you have a laptop with only one CD-R like me. I needed this because my collection of photos/videos of my toddler boy was getting out of hand. I used it to backup ALL of my over 50 gig of data into several DVD's. Not sure about its speed but it took me a while to get them all burned. But hey, I'm just glad that I now have those treasures all backed up! Just hook up both UDB ends to my Dynex external multi UDB ports, because my old dell laptop only offer two UDB ports and it works great like a champ! UDB and DVD are great things!
